Acting for Improvisers Weekend Intensive
A Two-Day Workshop to Strengthen Stagecraft and Elevate Your Improv
Why be a version of yourself in improv scenes when you could be a thousand different characters? All you need is some acting techniques and confidence!
This practical two-day workshop is designed specifically for improvisors who want to develop their acting skills in order to bring greater range and presence to their improvised characters and scenes.
Through a series of engaging exercises, we will explore the core principles of acting and stagecraft, including:
Vocal technique – learn how to use breath, projection, pitch, and pace to support characterisation and stage presence
Physicality and gesture – harness body language and movement to create engaging, three dimensional characters
Emotional truth and character development – bring authenticity, subtext and nuance to improvised scenes using established acting techniques
Stage awareness and spatial dynamics – understand the language of staging and use the space effectively with intention
Connecting with scene partners and audiences – build trust, presence, and impact on stage
Each element of the workshop is geared towards practically applying acting skills within improvised scenes, helping you to explore new tools, and integrate them into your existing improv practice.
Whether you're looking to feel more confident on stage, expand your performance range, or simply sharpen your improvisational craft, Acting for Improvisors will give you a strong foundation and fresh inspiration to take your improv scenes to the next level.
(Pre-requisite: This weekend workshop is designed to teach acting skills to improvisers. We won’t be teaching you ‘how to improvise’. Therefore the pre-requisite is to have at least 3 months improv experience).
Facilitated by Emma Bird:
Emma is the founder of Liverpool Comedy Improv and a seasoned professional in theatre making. With 35 years experience as an actor and theatre director, she has spent the past 18 years specialising in improvisational theatre, both as a performer and teacher.
