A 6 week Introduction to Long Form course introduces you to the essential skills needed to play and perform longer styles of improvisation.

What is Long Form Improv?
Long Form Improv is so varied but the main difference between short form improv games (which typically have 'rules' and last 3-5 minutes and don't connect to the scenes that came before or after it); is that long form improv uses skills you need to create longer improvisation. Building a story or narrative or working in a genre or using a suggestion to jump off and create multiple scenes and characters that are linked together, may repeat and return and should be linked to scenes coming before or after it. 

Course Overview:

Editing  - learn how to edit scenes, move the story on and support each other.

Object Work  - learn how to use the environment by miming objects to establish place and character

Thinking thematically  - make connections between scenes and characters

Character and Relationship  - understanding that all theatre (drama or comedy) is interesting when stories are about people and how they behave and feel toward each other

Point of View  - developing your character's point of view; their opinion or attitude toward things, people and the world deepens your character's believability.  

Game of the Scene  - establishing or developing a reccuring pattern that could be very funny or unusual; repeating it so it becomes the heart of the 'funny' in the scene.

The course also touches upon a variety of long form formats (there are SO many), such as a Montage, The Commando, The Slacker, Documentary... playing these formats helps you explore and develop long form skills.

Course Pre-requisites:

You must have at least three months experience at LCI drop in (or elsewhere)

Or have completed previous courses such as Beginners Levels 1/2/3 at LCI (or elsewhere)
